How to choose
The questions that decide it, in the order most people should ask them.
Decide where you read
If you read in the bath, by the pool or on the beach, the Paperwhite's IPX8 waterproofing is the main reason to pay more. The Kindle has no water rating.
Think about night reading
Both have a front light, but only the Paperwhite lets you shift it to a warmer tone. Many people find that easier on the eyes in bed.
Weigh size against portability
The Paperwhite's 7-inch screen fits more text per page. The Kindle is 64g lighter and smaller, so it slips into a coat pocket more easily.
Check the ads option
Amazon sells both with or without lock-screen ads, at different prices. Compare like for like; the prices on this page are the without-ads versions.

How long does the battery last?
Amazon quotes up to 6 weeks for the Kindle and up to 12 weeks for the Paperwhite. Real battery life depends on how long you read and how bright the light is set.
Can I still buy the 2024 models?
